Mechanics, Not just a skillbook!

Greetings my fellow New Edenites!

Welcome to another exciting installment of “I’m an idiot and here’s why”.
Ok. Fine. It’s the first installment, but I’m sure I’ll have plenty of new and exciting stories for you as I engage in more nefarious activities throughout this wonderful universe.

Despite the fact that I’ve played this game for a few years, there are always new things that manage to surprise me. Most recently it was the mechanics of Concord. I always thought I was fairly familiar with the way Concord mechanics work, but I managed to get myself concorded all the same.

It was about 30 minutes to go on a station timer, and I got bored, so I started combat scanning in my shiny new Confessor. There wasn’t much of interest in the system, but I did find a seemingly abandoned Mobile Tractor Unit. I warped to it, checked to see who it belonged to, and not seeing the owner in system, opened fire.

This wasn’t the screw-up. In fact, this went nice and smooth. A Fleet-mate warped in and took a pot shot at it, but I ended up getting the final blow and thus, the Kill Mail. The cool part was, it was my first MTU kill, and it had LOOT! I was SO excited that I got a kill, and loot, that this is where my screw-up happened.

In my excitement, I scooped the loot, then did what I always did when I found a wreck in a wormhole… I popped the wreck. See where I went wrong? Yeah. Oops. Concord didn’t care that I shot the MTU…. but the MOMENT I shot the wreck, some bored patrol officer began frothing at the mouth, threw his coffee mug over his shoulder, yelled “WHAT!? HOW DARE HE!” and scrambled his fleet to pop my poor confessor.

I was mildly annoyed at myself, and at Concord for shooting me because I should something I’d already been shooting, but hey. It happens. 8 mill kill, 66 mill loss. I’ll make up for it.

As I write this, I’ve been working on a ship I’ve always wanted to try in pvp. I don’t expect I will have much success due to my lack of experience and the potentially wonky ship I’ll be flying, but you never know, maybe I’ll surprise someone!

Until next time!

PS: We also killed two more structures. One the day I lost my poor confessor, and the other the next day. 🙂
